Plasti-Line, the Leading Manufacturer of Retail Identity Solutions, Goes Live with SupplyWorks

SupplyWorks MAX™ Enables "Lights-Out" Purchasing and a Seven Figure Reduction in Annual Direct Material Costs

BEDFORD, Mass, 12/09/02 — SupplyWorks, Inc., the leader in supplier relationship management (SRM) solutions for discrete manufacturers, today announced that it has successfully completed the installation of SupplyWorks® MAX™, its Web-based SRM software, at Plasti-Line, Inc. Plasti-Line expects to realize immediate and significant cost reductions through use of this "lights-out" environment for the company's direct procurement processes. The project is on track to achieve the full 5% savings in annual direct material spend that was planned when the project was green-lighted.

As part of Plasti-Line's strategic focus on improving the management of its supply base, SupplyWorks MAX is automating over 25% of the purchasing group's line volume. By moving to a "lights-out / manage by exception" purchasing model, Plasti-Line's limited resources are freed up to focus on higher-value-added activities aimed at improving their relationships with suppliers and reducing costs. Based in Knoxville, Tenn., Plasti-Line is the country's largest manufacturer of signage and retail identity solutions for companies such as McDonald's, Ford, General Motors and YUM! Brands (KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc.).

"By channeling all of our direct material spend through SupplyWorks, we are dramatically improving the purchasing process and enabling easier management of our corporate spend. SupplyWorks' automation of routine transactional tasks and its emphasis on exception-based management enables our buyers to focus on being true supply managers. Now time is spent managing the supply instead of expediting replenishment," said Nathan Bretscher, Plasti-Line's director of process improvement. "This enables us to spend more time increasing the percentage of spend under contract, consolidating our item and vendor master, and negotiating win-win relationships. We are experiencing a substantial reduction in direct material spend using this approach."

SupplyWorks MAX is a comprehensive SRM solution that includes multi-mode supply chain execution, extensive supplier collaboration facilities and advanced tools for strategic sourcing and supply management. Using SupplyWorks MAX, Plasti-Line's production buyers and planners will coordinate purchases and inventory across multiple locations to maximize the efficiency of direct materials usage and further improve cycle times and internal scheduling accuracy.

"SupplyWorks MAX is enabling Plasti-Line to enhance its operational efficiency, improve manufacturing responsiveness and flexibility, and more easily manage future growth across multiple plants," said Jeff Herrmann, president and CEO of SupplyWorks, Inc. "SupplyWorks continues to focus its attention on developing affordable supply chain solutions that enable manufacturers to cut costs and achieve a rapid return on their investment."
